IPAC Announces Enlargement, Membership Expansion in Response to PRC Coersion

In response to PRC coercion, IPAC today announced two new countries and 27 members joining the Alliance. The countries, Panama and Fiji, are the 40th and 41st parliaments to join the network, which now counts some 290 lawmakers among its members.
The announcement follows an Associated Press report revealing that IPAC Co-Chairs in Malawi and The Gambia were subjected to intense coercion, and forced to withdraw from the group.
In addition, IPAC announced that United States Congressman and Chair of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, Representative John Moolenaar will replace United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the Republican Co-Chair for IPAC in the United States. Representative Moolenaar is Co-Chair alongside his Democrat counterpart, Senator Jeff Merkley. In Japan, Representative Ichiro Aisawa took over the Liberal Democratic Party Co-Chairship from Representative Gen Nakatani, after Nakatani was appointed as the Defence Minister. In Lithuania, Ruslanas Baranovas MP replaced Dovilė Šakalienė MP after her appointment as the Defence Minister.
Among the new Co-Chairs are Deputy Manuel Cohen Salerno, for Panama, who leads the Taiwan-Panama Interparliamentary Friendship Group, and Hon. Rinesh Rajesh Sharma MP of Fiji, who serves as Deputy Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Cristian Ghinea MP, newly joined Romanian Co-Chair, said:
I am pleased to join IPAC’s important global alliance, which provides a united platform for democratic lawmakers to counter the PRC’s aggression. IPAC’s continued expansion sends a strong signal that we will stand firmly against interference, debt-trap diplomacy, and human rights abuses.
Rep. John Moolenaar, newly joined United States Co-Chair and the Chairman for Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, said:
I am deeply honored to serve as the U.S. Co-Chair of IPAC at such a critical time in global affairs. The decisions made by legislatures today will define the future for generations to come, and IPAC’s role in advocating for democracy and global accountability is more important than ever. As Chairman of the Select Committee on China, I am especially focused on addressing the growing challenges posed by the Chinese Communist Party's efforts to undermine democratic institutions and influence global policies.
I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue building on our efforts to protect freedom, justice, and the sovereignty of nations worldwide. I am also honored to take on this role following Secretary Rubio, whose leadership in co-founding IPAC and shaping its success has been truly exceptional.

因應中國政府的政治脅迫，對中政策跨國聯盟（IPAC）宣布新增 2 個成員國及 27 名新成員加入本聯盟。巴拿馬及斐濟成為第 40 與第 41 個加入 IPAC 的國會。IPAC 的成員總數現已達 290 位立法者。
此項宣布旨於回應昨日（ 4 月 9 日）《美聯社》報導。該報導揭露 IPAC 馬拉威及岡比亞聯席主席在中國對其施加強大壓力下被迫退出 IPAC。
此外，IPAC 同時宣布美國眾議員、中國共產黨特設委員會主席穆勒納爾（John Moolenaar） 接替出任美國國務卿的魯比奧 （Marco Rubio）擔任共和黨聯席主席。穆勒納爾將與民主黨參議員默克利（Jeff Merkeley）共同擔任美國聯席主席。日本方面，眾議員逢沢 一郎接替出任國防大臣的中谷 元，作為日本自民黨聯席主席。 在立陶宛，Dovilė Šakalienė 議員獲任命為國防部長，其聯席主席職務由 Ruslanas Baranovas 接替。
