Today the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech Chamber of Deputies adopted a resolution on “the misinterpretation of UN Resolution 2758 by the People’s Republic of China and support for Taiwan’s participation in international organisations” with strong cross party support.

This resolution was led by IPAC Czechia Co-Chair Rep. Eva Decroix, and supported by fellow IPAC Czechia members Hayato Okamura MP and Helena Langšádlová MP of the Czech Foreign Affairs Committee.

The resolution seeks to affirm the true intent and scope of UN Resolution 2758, which Beijing has been using to legitimise their claim of sovereignty over Taiwan. The motion rejects Beijing’s distortion of UN Resolution 2758, and condemns the People’s Republic of China’s military provocations around Taiwan. The resolution also calls for the EU and its Member States to promote Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organisations.

This marks the 6th parliament to pass a motion as part of IPAC’s Initiative 2758 which was voted on by over 50 IPAC members in Taipei this July. IPAC Czechia Co-Chair Rep. Eva Decroix was among them.

Australia was the first country in the network to pass such a motion, followed by the Netherlands, the EU, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Following the vote, IPAC Czechia Co-Chair Rep. Eva Decroix said:

This resolution sends a clear message: Taiwan's security is integral to upholding a rules-based international system. PRC's military provocations and its attempts to misinterpret UN resolutions to suit its narrative must be called out, and I am proud that the Czech Parliament took a stand on this issue today.
